Ruby Fields
Born in Cronulla, the southern suburb of Sydney, Ruby Fields, real name Ruby Phillips, has been making her mark on the Australian scene since 2017 with short, direct songs rooted in nervy indie rock tinged with punk. A singer and guitarist, she develops a blunt, upfront songwriting stance, often centered on everyday life, powered by dry or electric guitars and an unpretentious delivery. After the 2017 singles 'I Want' and 'P Plates', Ruby Fields released the EP Your Dad's Opinion for Dinner in 2018, then Permanent Hermit in 2019, which includes tracks such as 'Dinosaurs', 'Climate' and 'Trouble'. Her career quickly moved through Australian live circuits, with appearances at The Plot, SXSW, Laneway Festival, as well as tours as the opening act for Ball Park Music and San Cisco. Surrounded on stage by a band that accompanies her songs in a tight rock format, Ruby Fields later broadened her range with Pretty Grim, then released her debut album Been Doin' It for a Bit in 2021, followed by the live EP Live from Repentance Creek Hall in 2022. In 2026 Ruby Fields released her second album, Small Achievements, continuing a trajectory where the punk energy of the early days coexists with more expansive writing and consistently restrained arrangements.
