On 2 July 2026 at the Royal Albert Hall, What The World Needs Now: The Burt Bacharach Songbook celebrates Bacharach's craft with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the guidance of Rob Shirakbari, his longtime music director. Two voices take the spotlight for this journey through melodies built on nuance and clean lines.

Dionne Warwick, muse and close collaborator of Bacharach and lyricist Hal David, has embodied this repertoire since the 1960s. Her precise diction, supple phrasing and her way of letting melodies breathe have shaped songs that have become touchstones, from "Walk On By" to "I Say a Little Prayer." On stage, she revisits these songs with the ease of someone who knows their articulations, moving between orchestrated pop, subtle gospel undertones and mature soul.

Rumer offers a more contemporary, hushed reading. Accustomed to exploring this songbook — which she has already recorded with Shirakbari — she favours clarity of line and attention to the details of the arrangements, in an approach that places the melody in the foreground.

At the centre, Rob Shirakbari arranges the tempos, transitions and colours, while the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra unfolds the harmonies and provides the orchestral setting. A living tribute to Bacharach's style, balanced between memory and the present.
