Chalk

Chalk is the Belfast duo of musicians and filmmakers Ross Cullen and Benedict Goddard. On stage they fuse post-punk, noise-tilted rock and electronics, built on taut, club-leaning rhythms that nod to techno and drum’n’bass. Distorted guitars slice through patterns that pulse more than they swing, and a spoken-sung voice sits between cold-wave chant and dry narration. Their film practice shapes a clear visual approach that anchors the live set. Formed in the early 2020s, the pair have tested this sound across the Irish and UK underground; the EP Conditions (2023) drew the outline with industrial tones, club pressure and punk energy. Live, drums and sequenced low end drive a steady momentum, while guitars and samples lean into a grainy, mechanical texture. They bring it to Electric Ballroom, London, on 24 July 2026, with a set that plays on tension, repetition and detail rather than sheer volume.
