Primal Scream

Primal Scream play Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow on 5 September 2026. Formed in 1982 around Bobby Gillespie and Jim Beattie, the band has moved from jangle pop and psychedelia to the acid house pulse of Screamadelica, folding dub, gospel and club culture into rock. The line kept shifting: soul and blues on Give Out But Don’t Give Up, darker motorik moods on Vanishing Point, then the abrasive electro-rock of XTRMNTR and Evil Heat. Later came Riot City Blues, More Light, Chaosmosis and the recent Come Ahead (2024).

On scène, Primal Scream mix guitars, electronics and rhythm with a loose, hypnotic swing, porté par la voix traînante de Gillespie, les textures d’Andrew Innes et la frappe de Darrin Mooney. The set often moves across eras, stitching haze, groove and noise, with room for singalongs and left turns. A Glasgow date for a group that keeps its sound in flux, between rock energy, club influences and a lingering psychedelic edge.
