After nearly two decades of musical rapport, Mario Canonge and Michel Zenino renew their residency at Le Baiser Salé, like a ritual awaited each Wednesday by a loyal and passionate audience. Since 2006, this piano–double bass duo has established an exacting and intense format, without artifice or compromise, where every note, every silence matters. The absence of drums, far from being a constraint, becomes a playground where concentration, mutual listening, and sensitivity are at the center of it.
On stage at Le Baiser Salé, Canonge, a figure of Caribbean jazz, and Zenino, a bassist with precise phrasing, creatively revisit jazz standards, from Thelonious Monk to Ornette Coleman, while infusing them with their Creole and Latin roots and their taste for cross-cultural blending. This residency, a laboratory of improvisation, blends tradition and modernity, nourished by years of uninterrupted musical dialogue. Each week, they also welcome guest artists, extending this dynamic of exchange and exploration.
Returning to these evenings is to dive into a moment where technical mastery gives way to emotion and the shared instant, a gathering for fans of vibrant, freely improvised jazz.
