Thierry Fanfant

Born in 1964 into a family of Guadeloupean musicians, Thierry Fanfant frames his career within a family history where Antillean song, jazz and collective practice intersect. The son of singer Guy Fanfant and brother of drummer Jean-Philippe Fanfant, Thierry has spent several decades developing his work as a bassist on the French scene, in settings ranging from bands to the studio. His trajectory, visible through an extensive discography and numerous collaborations, places him at the junction of jazz, fusion, funk and Caribbean music. His playing is characterized by a supple rhythmic foundation, melodic bass lines and a constant attention to dialogue with the percussion, in an aesthetic where groove remains central without breaking with Antillean heritage. He also leads projects under his own name, extending this interplay between contemporary jazz writing and rhythms from the Caribbean.
