On 1 February 2027, The Fabulous Thunderbirds bring their Texas-bred blend of electric blues, R&B, rock’n’roll and soul to Band on the Wall in Manchester. Active since the mid-70s, the band built its reputation on a tight, swaggering groove and that straight-to-the-point sound that made early records a cult favorite before the wider breakthrough of Tuff Enuff.
At the center is co-founder Kim Wilson, still leading the charge on vocals and harmonica. Rooted in the Chicago and Texas traditions, his playing nods to heroes like Little Walter, George “Harmonica” Smith, Lazy Lester and James Cotton, and he’s long been recognized as a key voice in modern blues.
Expect a set that moves between gritty shuffles and sharper, more soulful cuts, with room for the band’s signature classics like Tuff Enuff and Wrap It Up. Current lineup: Kim Wilson (vocals, harmonica), Johnny Moeller (guitar), Bob Welsh (piano/guitar), Rudy Albin (drums) and Steve Kirsty (bass).
