Since the turn of the 1990s, when she broke through with 'On How Life Is', she has consistently blended R&B, neo-soul, and pop, sometimes leaning toward funk, sometimes toward more rock- or hip-hop-inflected accents. In the following years she also explored cover material and jazz, with sparer arrangements, and later returned to soul infused with pop.
