As Romare, London producer and DJ Archie Fairhurst builds tracks the way a collagist builds images: by cutting into existing material and reshaping it into something new. His name is a direct nod to Romare Bearden, whose visual collages inspired Fairhurst to treat sampling as a thoughtful craft rather than a quick shortcut. Across his records, you can hear him stitching together jazz, blues and soul fragments with house, broken beat and downtempo structures, always driven by a curiosity for musical history and texture.
Even when the concepts get detailed and the arrangements twist, Romare stays grounded in dance music and the physical pull of the floor.
