A singular force in contemporary fado, Marta Pereira da Costa reshapes tradition through the voice of the Portuguese guitar.
The first woman to perform professionally on the instrument at the heart of fado, her sound moves beyond tradition, weaving in Brazilian chorinho, Cape Verdean morna and subtle shades of jazz, while remaining rooted in the soul of Portuguese music.
Awarded Instrumentalist of the Year by the Amália Rodrigues Foundation, Marta brings a sensitivity and intensity to the stage, honouring fado’s heritage while reshaping its future.
