Info

Arrested Development will perform on 11 September 2026 at Metropool in Enschede. The collective from Atlanta emerged in the late 1980s around rapper/producer Speech and DJ Headliner and developed an alternative form of hip hop in which soul and funk merge with an Afrocentric perspective. Their lyrics focus on social, spiritual and political themes and stand in contrast to the then-dominant gangsta rap. Their breakthrough came in 1992 with the album 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life Of..., anchored by the singles “Tennessee,” “People Everyday” and “Mr. Wendal.” In 1993 the group made history with a Grammy for Best New Artist and an award for Best Rap Performance for “Tennessee.”

After a hiatus in 1996, Arrested Development resumed activity in 2000 and has since largely pursued an independent course under Speech’s leadership. Numerous releases followed, from Among the Trees (2004) and Since the Last Time (2006) to Strong (2010), Standing at the Crossroads (2012), This Was Never Home and Changing the Narrative (2016), Craft & Optics (2018), Don’t Fight Your Demons (2020) and For the FKN Love (2021). In concert you can expect a mix of early classics and more recent material. The current line-up: Speech, One Love, JJ Boogie and Fareedah Aleem.
