Info
Digable Planets mark three decades of Blowout Comb with a set built around the album that deepened their jazz‑rap blueprint. Formed in Brooklyn, the trio of Butterfly, Doodlebug and Ladybug Mecca carved out a laid‑back, sample‑rich sound where supple drums, smoky horns and conversational flows meet references to Black movements and everyday city life. After the breakout of Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat) on their 1993 debut, they pivoted in 1994 toward a darker, more insistent groove on Blowout Comb, threading political awareness through head‑nodding rhythms and elastic rhyme play.
On stage, that chemistry is the core of the show: interlocking voices, fluid beats and the kind of jazz‑soaked textures that made their catalog travel well beyond the 90s. Cuts from Blowout Comb anchor the night, with room to trace the group’s wider arc and the individuality each member brings. Vancouver catches this celebration on October 24, 2026 at the Commodore Ballroom, a chance to hear those slow‑burn loops and nimble verses in their natural element, live and unhurried.
