Info
On 7 July 2026 at the Roundhouse in London, Gilberto Gil brings an intimate retrospective that traces six decades of songwriting and stage craft. A founding voice of Tropicalismo, he blends Bahia’s traditions with samba, reggae, pop, rock and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, shaping a sound that travels without losing its roots.
For this set, he revisits favourites including Aquele Abraço, Toda Menina Baiana, Expresso 2222, Andar com Fé, Drão, Palco and Não Chore Mais, rearranged with the ease of an artist who keeps his catalogue alive on stage.
He appears with family: Bem Gil on vocals, guitar and bass; José Gil on vocals and drums; João Gil on vocals, guitar and bass; and Flor Gil on vocals and keyboards. Together they turn the concert into a dialogue across generations, adding new textures and warmth to songs that have marked Brazil’s musical story.
From bossa and baião to the reggae-inflected grooves he explored during earlier years in London, Gil lets melody, rhythm and lyrics carry memories of Salvador, the spark of the late-60s movement and the open, conversational approach that anchors his live shows today.
