Info
Garrett T. Capps’ new album, I Still Love San Antone, reflects San Antonio as a musical center. With the offbeat energy audiences have come to expect from the San Antonio-based singer-songwriter, the album avoids a novelty record format. It incorporates country-rock and retro Tex-Mex instrumentation with a psychedelic perspective. Garrett T. Capps performs at The Cluny on 3 September 2026 at 6:30 pm.
Co-written and produced by Bill Baird, its 15 tracks trace a concise cultural history of the Alamo City’s contemporary outsiders and oddities. Bottling The 210 both lyrically and sonically, the album features performances by Joe “King” Carrasco, Santiago Jiménez Jr., Rosie Flores, Augie Meyers, and Butthole Surfers’ Paul Leary.
“Bill and I bonded over our underdog mentality about San Antonio,” says Capps. “We should make a far-out San Antonio album. We had to do this because no one else would. That was the spirit of the album.”
Capps’ vocals and live-honed rock instincts guide the journey through Central Texas lore. As a follow-up to his 2021 album, I Love San Antone, he teamed up with Baird (Sound Team, Sunset, Heavy Meddo), who had recently returned to their shared hometown. From “Bongo Joe” to “Remember the Alamodome,” the album draws on Baird’s recent work writing local histories for the San Antonio Current newspaper.
