Berlin-based producer and DJ Mechatok, aka Emir Timur Tokdemir, brings his refined vision of electronic pop to Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver on May 7. Over the past decade, he has traced a clear line between experimental pop and club music, working from the inside with collaborators like Drain Gang, Charli XCX and Lorenzo Senni while keeping a discreet profile. That approach comes into focus with Wide Awake, his debut solo album, which anchors this live set.

Mechatok’s sound leans on glassy synths, clean, clipped percussion and melodies that hover between intimate and anthemic. He pares hooks to their essentials, lets space do part of the work, and shifts textures from bright to brittle without breaking the pulse. On stage, these elements connect with a calm precision: pop structures folded into lean club frameworks, sudden swerves into bare piano or processed voice, and rhythms that breathe rather than blaze. The performance leans on tension and release, with detail-forward production that opens the dancefloor while leaving room for imagination.
