Info
St. Paul & The Broken Bones arrive at Cyprus Avenue in Cork on 23 October 2026 with a set rooted in Southern soul and cut with a modern edge. Formed in Birmingham, Alabama, the band revolves around the voice of Paul Janeway and the bass of Jesse Phillips, with horns, keys and a tight rhythm section shaping a blend of soul, rhythm and blues, gospel shades and a touch of funk. First imagined as a studio project, they quickly evolved on stage across clubs and theatres in the US and Europe, carrying songs with grooves and brass rather than leaning on retro poses.
Across Half the City, Sea of Noise and Young Sick Camellia, the group refined a classic palette; The Alien Coast and Angels in Science Fiction opened the door to more psychedelic and atmospheric textures without losing the pulse. Live, Janeway’s phrasing drives the dynamics while the arrangements leave space for the horns to answer, stretch and push the melodies. Songs build patiently, breaks snap back into the pocket, and the ensemble treats soul as a living language, anchored by voice, groove and brass.
