Info
For more than ten years, the four members of Songhoy Blues have paid tribute to the "ancestors who passed down artistic works to guide future generations." The band's name derives from their ethnic group, settled along the bend of the Niger River in northern Mali, and from the musical style they play: Tuareg/desert blues.
Based in Bamako for a decade (the band members cannot return to their home region, where they are threatened by religious fundamentalism), Songhoy Blues perform songs that evoke daily life and human relationships in Mali. Their new album, "Heritage," explores a more acoustic and refreshed approach to desert blues. Recorded in Bamako with producer Paul Chandler, the album blends original compositions with Malian musical influences, drawing on traditional instruments and local collaborations. They will perform in concert on 13 October 2026 at 5:00 PM at La Marbrerie.
