Assassin is a French hip-hop group, founded in Paris in the mid-1980s and led by Rockin' Squat, a prominent figure in politically engaged rap in France. A pioneer of conscious hip-hop, the group became known from the outset for its committed lyrics and artistic freedom. Assassin was the first French rap group to earn a gold record entirely independently, producing and distributing its music through its own label, Assassin Productions. The group then became a reference point and an influence within this culture both in France and internationally. With more than one million albums sold and several landmark tracks, Assassin has influenced multiple generations of artists. In 2026, the group returns with a new album and a tour, staying true to its activist DNA and artistic choices.
