Fat Freddy's Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop bring their Wellington-bred dub to Poolen, Refshalevej 189, 1432 København, on 4 June 2026. Formed in 1999, the New Zealand crew built its sound on heavy reggae and dub, folded into soul, jazz and subtle electronic pulses. First heard on the live recording Live at the Matterhorn, they broke out with Based On a True Story (2005), then pushed the formula on Dr Boondigga & The Big BW and Blackbird, touring Europe from Glastonbury to Sónar. Along the way, they’ve shaped a catalog designed for the stage, where tracks stretch, breathe and shift with the room.

On stage, the band works in long-form: Fitchie sculpts the rhythm architecture, Dobie Blaze lays warm keys, Jetlag Johnson threads guitar lines, and Joe Dukie’s unmistakable voice anchors the melodies. The set leans on deep bass pressure, dubbed-out delays and a buoyant brass pulse, leaving space for improvisation and versions that morph night after night. Between early staples and later cuts, the show rolls in waves rather than snapshots, a live-to-dub journey tailored for a Copenhagen evening at Poolen.
