Karsu

On 30 April 2027 Karsu will perform at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. The singer, pianist and songwriter Karsu Dönmez, who grew up in Amsterdam, has developed a distinctive sound at the crossroads of jazz, pop, soul and Anatolian traditions. On stage the focus is on the interplay around the piano: lyrical ballads alongside more rhythmic songs, with arrangements that combine the suppleness of modern jazz with the colour of orchestrated pop and the occasional subtle electronic layer. She alternates her own compositions with reworked covers, sings in both Turkish and English and lets the two worlds naturally interlock. From her early shows in the Netherlands to appearances at international festivals and concert halls, she has refined this hybrid repertoire on albums such as Live aan ’t IJ, Confession, Colors and the eponymous Karsu. In Eindhoven she will present a set that brings together her roots and the sound of her current band, with room for improvisation, storytelling and dynamic contrast.
