On 30 April 2026 Patronaat, Haarlem will be dedicated to Detroit: Apollo Brown and Journalist 103 bring The Left to the stage, with Guilty Simpson as partner in crime. Raw boom bap, soulful loops and spare drums form the backbone; storytelling and detail-rich bars do the rest.
Apollo Brown provides those gritty, melodic beats that leave space for the MC. Journalist 103 supplies tightly articulated verses and an observant pen. Together they draw on their album Gas Mask and related material: compact hooks, shifting atmospheres, nothing superfluous.
Guilty Simpson joins with his deep voice and controlled timing. Coming up alongside J Dilla and known for the duo album with Brown, Dice Game, he delivers straight-ahead raps over spare soul and funk samples. Expect tracks that rely on timing and lyricism and an interplay with Brown’s selections, for a set firmly rooted in Detroit hip-hop.
