On 9 October 2026 Rapalje will perform at Patronaat in Haarlem for a Celtic Folk Night that showcases the core of their music. Since the mid-1990s the Groningen-based band has been carving out a place within European folk, with a repertoire that pairs Irish and Scottish traditionals with songs in Dutch. Acoustic and multi-instrumental, the band alternates between dance tunes, ballads and sing-along choruses, sung in English, Dutch and regional dialects.
On stage Rapalje aims for the atmosphere of a pub session: tight rhythms, room for melody and harmonies, and a presentation in historical costume that adds colour to the storytelling. Old themes are given new arrangements; their own compositions build on these and keep the connection to the source intact. The set moves effortlessly from energetic numbers to quiet moments and back, with interaction that brings the audience close to the music.
