Rapalje

Founded in the mid-1990s in Groningen, the Netherlands, Rapalje established itself on the European folk scene with a repertoire focused on the Celtic music of Ireland and Scotland, blended with traditional Dutch songs. Built around a core of multi-instrumentalists, the group developed an acoustic approach combining dance tunes, ballads and sing-alongs, performed in English, Dutch and regional dialects. Rapalje has made a name for itself on the folk, medieval and fantasy festival circuits in the Netherlands, Germany and several other European countries, favoring outdoor stages and intimate venues. Over the years the lineup has changed several times but the band has retained the same artistic direction, centered on reinterpreting traditional material and composing new pieces inspired by that repertoire. On stage Rapalje often pairs historical costumes with the energy of a pub session, seeking a balance between fidelity to the sources and arrangements accessible to a broad audience. Rapalje's discography spans several studio albums and live recordings released from the late 1990s, documenting the group's gradual evolution while remaining rooted in a recognizable Celtic folk aesthetic.
