Formed in Tokyo in 2013, The Highmarts continue the lineage of Japanese garage rock. An all-female trio, they draw on the Group Sounds of the sixties and the punk of the seventies for a raw, direct sound. Fuzz guitar up front, primitive riffs, uncompromising rhythms: their music goes straight to the essentials, without superfluous effects, with a compact, immediate energy.
On May 17, 2026 at Le Molotov in Marseille, they come to champion this old‑school blend, somewhere between punk urgency and the melodic drive of the ’60s. No frills, just the impact of a tight, abrasive garage sound, where the vocals sit right alongside the saturated guitars. The Highmarts revisit, in their own way, a firmly rooted tradition of Japanese rock, with short tracks, rough textures and a tension that never lets up. A live set conceived for closeness, up close to the amps, where the fuzz crackles and each break tightens the performance a little more.
