Info
Born in Manhattan’s ska scene in the early 1990s, The Slackers shaped a horn-led sound that threads ska, rocksteady and roots reggae with touches of soul, rhythm and blues and garage rock. Led by singer and keyboardist Vic Ruggiero alongside saxophonist Dave Hillyard, the sextet leans into mid-tempo grooves and tight songwriting influenced by 60s and 70s pop. From early gigs in New York clubs to tours across North America, Europe and Latin America, they’ve built a solid catalog, from Better Late Than Never, Redlight and The Question to Wasted Days, Peculiar, The Great Rocksteady Swindle, their self-titled album and Don’t Let The Sunlight Fool Ya. Their lyrics swing between melancholy and dry humor, framed by brass arrangements and a rhythm section that keeps the pulse steady. The Slackers play The Starlite Room in Edmonton on May 24, 2026, with special guests.
