Fat Freddy’s Drop returns to the stage and will stop in Nantes: rendezvous on October 9, 2026, at the Zénith Nantes Métropole in Saint-Herblain. The Wellington collective has been shaping a distinctive sound since the early 2000s — a blend of reggae, soul, dub, funk and electronic — driven by Dallas Tamaira’s voice and a brass section that likes to stretch motifs. This tour shines a new light on Based On A True Story, the 2005 album that sealed their identity and made them known far beyond New Zealand.
The journey resumes with a thought for Chris “MU” Faiumu, a founding member who recently passed away. The band has chosen to carry on, true to the spirit he helped create, performing these songs with the same collective exactingness and taste for improvisation. On the bill are grooves that settle in, supple basslines, dub breaks and that way of letting the songs breathe without forcing them.
In Nantes, Fat Freddy’s Drop will present a set centered on their repertoire, between analog warmth and electronic pulse, for those who appreciate borderless blends.
