Mario Canonge – piano; Michel Zenino – double bass
After nearly two decades of musical collaboration, Mario Canonge and Michel Zenino relaunch their residency at Le Baiser Salé, as a ritual awaited every Wednesday by a loyal and passionate audience. This piano–double bass duo has managed to establish a demanding and intense format, without artifice or compromise, where every note, every silence counts. The absence of drums, far from being a constraint, becomes a playing field where concentration, mutual listening, and sensitivity are at the heart of the music. On stage, Canonge, a figure of Caribbean jazz, and Zenino, a bassist with precise phrasing, creatively revisit the great jazz standards, from Thelonious Monk to Ornette Coleman, while infusing their Creole and Latin roots, and their taste for cross-cultural fusion.
This residency, a laboratory of improvisation, blends tradition and modernity in a form of alchemy nourished by years of musical dialogue.
