On 13 June 2026 at Chalk, Brighton, The Beat hit the stage with Ranking Jnr on lead vocals, prolonging the line that his father Ranking Roger traced with the band. Formed in Birmingham’s 2 Tone wake, The Beat fuse ska’s offbeat, reggae warmth and post-punk snap into songs built to move. Today, Ranking Jnr brings his own flow and phrasing to that DNA, sliding between toasting and melody while the rhythm section keeps the groove tight and the sax lines cut through.
The set leans on tracks like Mirror in the Bathroom, Too Nice to Talk To and Hands Off... She’s Mine, with room for deeper cuts that reveal the band’s reggae and soul roots.
