Info
Seventy-five years after TASPO first brought the steel pan to Britain, Steel Pan Reimagined invites a new wave of composers to sketch fresh futures for the instrument. On 25 July 2026 at Royal Festival Hall, London, the programme unveils world premieres and brand-new works that connect classical writing, jazz phrasing, electronic textures and Caribbean rhythm, placing the pan at the centre of a modern, genre-fluid sound.
Producer, musician and DJ Nabihah Iqbal approaches the instrument with her blend of guitar-led songwriting and electronic craft, threading hypnotic patterns and luminous harmonies into percussive colour. Saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch links contemporary jazz with the cadence of rap, letting improvisation, groove and spoken word meet the bright resonance of the pans.
Composer-arranger Delphina James and virtuoso Marlon The Pannist add new commissions that lean into the instrument’s lyricism and drive, expanding its palette while keeping its collective spirit in focus. With more artists to be announced, Steel Pan Reimagined looks back to a landmark legacy and pushes it forward, shaping a live set where new works, cross-discipline collaborations and the sound of the pan move as one.
