Info

Shed Seven bring their britpop‑leaning indie rock to Victoria Hall, Stoke‑on‑Trent, on 8 December 2026. Formed in York in 1990 and led by vocalist Rick Witter with bassist Tom Gladwin, the band forged a sound built on melodic guitars and direct choruses, moving from the UK live circuit to a run of 90s releases on Polydor: Change Giver (1994), A Maximum High (1996) and Let It Ride (1998), then Truth Be Told (2001). After a split in 2003 and a reunion in 2007, they returned to the studio with Instant Pleasures (2017) and, in 2024, A Matter of Time plus Liquid Gold, a set of reworks. On stage, the current line‑up revisits cornerstone tracks alongside recent material, folding britpop, alternative and indie instincts into a concise, high‑energy set.

Joining the bill, The Academic — the Mullingar quartet of Craig Fitzgerald, Dean Gavin and brothers Matthew and Stephen Murtagh — deliver a sharp, melodic take on guitar pop. Their debut Tales From The Backseat (2018) went straight to the top of the Irish charts; Sitting Pretty (2023) pushed the formula forward while keeping the hooks upfront. Between nervy rhythms and chiming riffs, their songs nod to influences from the Kinks to Talking Heads and land with a modern snap, setting the tone before Shed Seven take over.
