Info
Jan Garbarek brings his Group to Kino Kijów in Kraków on June 28, 2026, joined by Trilok Gurtu. Active in European jazz since the late 1960s, the Norwegian tenor and soprano saxophonist has shaped a clear, tensile sound built on long notes, space and a sharp sense of melody. Through his ECM albums, he has traced connections between modern jazz, Nordic folk tones, ambient textures and extra‑European traditions, opening his writing to wide, contemplative forms. Along the way he has collaborated with Keith Jarrett, Ralph Towner, Bill Frisell and Eberhard Weber, and pushed his language toward early music with the Hilliard Ensemble.
On stage in Kraków, Garbarek’s group sets that lyrical, spacious approach in motion alongside Gurtu’s rhythmic drive, extending the music’s dialogue between improvisation and pulse. The set moves through flowing themes, room for silence and a conversation that shifts from airy motifs to deeper grooves, keeping clarity and balance while letting each voice breathe within the group sound.
