Catherine Lara et la Cie Kumo

Catherine Lara is partnering with the Kumo Company for Identités, a meeting between her violin and the dancers’ hip‑hop choreographic writing. On the occasion of her 80th birthday and her 55‑year career, the artist revisits her compositions and shades of film music in a close dialogue with break and urban techniques. On April 29, 2026, at the Pasino GRAND Partouche Aix‑en‑Provence, she lays down a clear melodic line to which a collective movement responds, unsettling familiar reference points and opening the stage to other languages.

Identités explores what shapes each person today: social networks, one’s place within the group, the relationship to others. Kumo’s dancers compose a physical counterpoint to Lara’s themes, oscillating between rhythmic precision and breath, to bring forth portraits where the individual meets the shared. The show crosses world music, hip‑hop and instrumental writing, not seeking total fusion but allowing points of friction, echoes and bridges to emerge. A journey in which identities answer one another, rub against one another and reinvent themselves on stage.
