$ilkMoney
Coming out of Richmond, Virginia, $ilkMoney developed in the local underground rap scene in the mid-2010s, first through collective projects before asserting a more singular solo trajectory. A rapper and producer, $ilkMoney pursues an experimental hip-hop sound in which psychedelic loops, off-kilter rhythms, tense spoken word, absurd humor and blunt writing intersect. His phrasing, often jarring and unpredictable, gives his tracks a deliberately unstable feel, straddling introspection, social satire and raw energy. After several notable appearances in the American underground, $ilkMoney released I Hate My Life And I Really Wish People Would Stop Telling Me Not To in 2018, followed by I Don’t Give A Fuck About This Rap Shit, Imma Just Drop Until I Don’t Feel Like It Anymore in 2022, two records that extend this abrasive and free aesthetic. His career places him at the crossroads of independent rap scenes attentive to oblique forms, with collaborations alongside Quelle Chris, Fly Anakin or Pink Siifu. In 2025, $ilkMoney releases Who Waters the Wilting Giving Tree Once the Leaves Dry Up and Fruits No Longer Bear?, continuing a body of work where production as much as writing favors tonal ruptures, psychedelic textures and a very personal relation to contemporary rap.
