Born in Oakland, California and later based in Atlanta, Lil Gnar (Caleb Sheppard) first made his name in skateboarding and streetwear before turning to music in the mid-2010s. Rooted in Atlanta’s trap and melodic rap wave, Lil Gnar drew attention online with a run of singles and videos that blend skate imagery, punk aesthetics, and modern, heavily Auto-Tuned sounds. The project "GNAR Lif3" arrived in 2018, followed by "FIRE HAZARD" in 2019, cementing Lil Gnar in a lane that mixes aggressive trap, catchy hooks, and references to American alternative culture. He then multiplied collaborations with rappers from the U.S. trap and emo-rap scenes, consolidating a universe where abrasive energy, rock influences, and blown-out digital production coexist. Across his subsequent releases, notably projects like "GNAR Lif3 2" in 2022, Lil Gnar sharpened a writing style centered on ego-trip braggadocio, excess, and a day-to-day shaped by fashion and skateboarding, while leaning into fast tempos, heavy bass, and dark atmospheres. Active on club stages and at hip-hop festivals in the United States and beyond, Lil Gnar continues on a path linking skate culture, internet rap, and contemporary trap aesthetics.
