Vishal-Shekhar

The Mumbai-based composer-producer duo Vishal-Shekhar comprises Vishal Dadlani, also active in the Indian rock scene, and Shekhar Ravjiani, trained in classical singing. Active in the Hindi film industry since the late 1990s, they made their breakthrough in the early 2000s with the soundtrack to Jhankaar Beats (2003), which established Vishal-Shekhar’s signature sound between urban pop and filmi melodies. Their work has since spanned numerous Bollywood productions, including Dus (2005), Om Shanti Om (2007), Dostana (2008), Anjaana Anjaani (2010), Ra.One (2011) and Chennai Express (2013). Vishal-Shekhar’s music combines instantly memorable choruses, arrangements close to Western pop, electronic, dance-oriented passages and elements drawn from Indian classical and popular traditions, with particular attention to vocal duets and dynamic shifts within individual tracks. The duo regularly collaborates with singers and rappers from the Bollywood scene, provides some of their own studio vocals, and adapts this repertoire for live performances in India and internationally — across festival formats, touring cinema shows and orchestral concerts.
