Shreya Ghoshal

Born in Berhampore, West Bengal, and partly raised in Rajasthan, Shreya Ghoshal trained early in Hindustani classical singing before appearing on television in the talent show Sa Re Ga Ma, which launched her into the Indian music industry. She made her mark in the early 2000s with songs from the film Devdas (2002), which firmly established her voice in the world of playback singing. Since then Ghoshal has recorded for Indian cinema in multiple languages — notably Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Marathi — collaborating with composers such as A.R. Rahman, Pritam, Shankar‑Ehsaan‑Loy and Ilaiyaraaja depending on the production. Her repertoire spans film music, Indian pop, orchestral ballads, semi‑classical pieces, ghazal and devotional songs, and her performances are characterised by precise diction, supple melodic lines and frequent use of ornaments derived from the classical tradition. Present on soundtracks, music programmes and concert stages, Shreya Ghoshal has maintained a continuous presence in Indian popular music for more than two decades.
