Asim Azhar
Born in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1996, Asim Azhar first attracted attention as a teenager by posting online covers of English-language pop songs before turning to Urdu music and the local scene. He develops a contemporary pop style that ranges from romantic ballads to more rhythmic tracks, featuring prominent vocal melodies, touches of R&B, choruses sung in Urdu and occasional English lines. His entry into the Pakistani music industry came through singles and original soundtracks for television series, and was boosted by his appearance on Coke Studio—most notably the 2016 duet “Tera Woh Pyar” with Momina Mustehsan—which increased his visibility across the subcontinent. He went on to release several notable songs of the new Pakistani pop wave, including “Jo Tu Na Mila” (2018) and “Ghalat Fehmi” for the film Superstar (2019), while asserting himself as a songwriter on part of his repertoire. Regularly collaborating with other urban musicians and producers associated with TV dramas, he performs concerts in Pakistan and for South Asian diaspora communities, consolidating his position as a pop artist at the intersection of film music, sentimental balladry and mainstream electronic trends.
