Prateek Kuhad

Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan in 1990, Prateek Kuhad writes and sings in English as well as Hindi in a register situated between indie folk, acoustic pop and intimate songwriting. Active since the early 2010s, Prateek Kuhad released a self-titled debut EP in 2011, followed by Raat Raazi in 2013, before the album In Tokens & Charms in 2015, which established a guitar-centered writing, sober melodies and light arrangements. After spending time in New York for his studies and then returning to India, he develops his trajectory between the Indian indie scene and a more international audience. His repertoire alternates between hushed ballads, suspended folk-pop and sentimental songs in a direct tone, with attention to acoustic textures and the prominence of the voice. The short-format takes an important place in his career with the 2018 EP cold/mess, followed by Shehron Ke Raaz in 2021. Prateek Kuhad then releases The Way That Lovers Do in 2022, followed by Mulaqat in 2023, continuing bilingual work where folk influences, contemporary pop and spare writing cross. Alongside his solo releases, Prateek Kuhad has also written several songs for cinema and occasional collaborations, notably with Jasleen Royal, Ankur Tewari, Lisa Mishra and Raveena.
