RIN
Under the name RIN, rapper Renato Simunovic has been developing a melodic brand of rap since the mid-2010s that is part of the new German-language wave. Born in 1994 in Bietigheim-Bissingen in southern Germany, RIN first emerged online and reached a wider audience in 2016 with the single “Bianco,” recorded with Austrian rapper Yung Hurn. His early recordings establish an aesthetic rooted in trap and cloud rap, where sung melodies, prominent use of autotune, and language drawn from the everyday lives of suburban youth play a central role. With the 2017 album “Eros,” RIN refines this approach by leaning more into contrasts between rapped verses and pop choruses. “Nimmerland” (2019) further broadens the palette, incorporating more introspective atmospheres and slower tempos, while “Kleinstadt” (2021) returns more explicitly to small-town life, a recurring theme in his lyrics. RIN primarily operates within the German rap scene and at Central European festivals, presenting a catalog dominated by synthetic productions, trap rhythms, and earworm choruses. From track to track he plays on the tension between images of luxury, references to internet culture, and depictions of adolescent relationships and sociality, placing his work at the intersection of rap, pop, and an aesthetic close to contemporary R&B.
