Puuluup
Puuluup is an Estonian duo formed in Tallinn in the mid-2010s. Musicians Ramo Teder and Marko Veisson share a fascination with the talharpa, a traditional Nordic bowed lyre. Rather than taking a strictly preservationist approach, Puuluup has developed a musical language that blends contemporary folk, minimalist influences and touches from urban music, with a marked use of rhythmic repetition and vocal cycles. Their lyrics, sung in Estonian and regional dialects, move between everyday narratives, rural references and absurd imagery, giving Puuluup’s songs a narrative yet offbeat quality. The duo, with each member alternating between voice and talharpa, gradually made a name for themselves on the folk and world scene—first in Estonia and later at various European festivals, notably in Germany and the Baltic countries. Their discography includes the album “Süüta mu lumi” (2018), followed by “Viimane suusataja” (2020), which consolidate this acoustic post-folk aesthetic built on repetitive motifs, work on groove and a playful relationship to tradition.
