Master Boot Record

Behind the name Master Boot Record is Italian musician Victor Love, based in Rome and also active in the industrial band Dope Stars Inc. Launched in 2016 as a largely anonymous project on Bandcamp, Master Boot Record creates a hybrid of extreme metal, synthwave, chiptune and orchestral music, where saturated synthesizer lines take the place of guitars and evoke the aesthetic of early personal computers. The titles, visuals and concepts are consistently inspired by the world of the BIOS, file systems and network protocols, giving the project an identity strongly rooted in computing culture and retro‑computing. After several self‑produced albums circulating in online metal and synthwave scenes, Master Boot Record joined the Finnish label Blood Music and later signed with Metal Blade Records, which released the album "Personal Computer" in 2022. Primarily a studio project, Master Boot Record is sometimes presented on stage with a lineup of metal musicians, extending this fusion of heavy metal codes, electronic textures and references to the history of digital technologies.
