Sunset Rollercoaster

Formed in Taipei in the late 2000s, Sunset Rollercoaster develops a supple indie-pop sound that blends soft rock, psychedelic soul, city pop, understated funk and touches of bossa nova. The band first gained attention on the Taiwanese scene with a debut EP released in 2011, before resuming activity in the mid-2010s and gradually expanding their audience beyond Taiwan. With Jinji Kikko (2016) and SOFT STORM (2020), Sunset Rollercoaster refined a mellow sonic palette built around slow-to-mid tempos, prominent bass, light guitars, silky keyboards and vocals often placed in an airy register, mostly in English. They draw on 1970s and 1980s pop without aiming for historical recreation, combining retro references with contemporary songwriting. Their trajectory has taken them from Taipei’s clubs and independent venues to wider tours across Asia, Europe and North America, along an aesthetic line that moves between indie pop, gentle psychedelia and melancholic groove.
