Tolü Makay
Born in Nigeria and raised in Ireland from childhood, between Wexford, Waterford and then Tullamore in County Offaly, Tolü Makay develops a path at the crossroads of contemporary R&B, soul and hip-hop-infused pop. Active since the late 2010s, Tolü Makay has made herself known with the singles Ocean and You Are Enough in 2019, before releasing the EP Being in 2020. Her ample and supple voice sits in sober productions, centered on singing, with writing attentive to themes of intimacy, identity and solace. In 2020, her N17 cover with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, recorded for RTÉ’s New Year’s Eve program, greatly broadened her audience in Ireland and positioned her interpretation in a register that is both orchestral and personal. Tolü Makay also participates in the Irish Women in Harmony collective, formed around several singers from the Irish scene. After this initial period marked by singles and collaborations, she continues her evolution with the EP People Still Cry in Summer, released in 2025, maintaining this approach between R&B, soul and contemporary pop.
