Fabiano do Nascimento
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Fabiano do Nascimento develops instrumental music that links Brazilian traditions with more open forms of jazz and experimentation. Initially trained in classical piano as a child, he turned to the guitar at the age of ten and studied with his uncle Lucio Nascimento, who has left a lasting mark on his approach to playing and composing. Later based in Los Angeles, while also sharing part of his activity with Tokyo, Fabiano do Nascimento has established himself in a variety of contexts as a guitarist, composer, producer and arranger. His musical language draws on choro, afro‑samba and Brazilian folk repertoires, while incorporating colors of modern jazz, freer structures and, at times, subtle electronic textures. Playing various nylon‑string guitars and employing multiple tunings, he constructs a supple, dense and highly melodic sound. Over the course of his career he has released several albums under his own name and collaborated with musicians from different scenes, including Arthur Verocai, Airto Moreira and Sam Gendel.
