MAD DUBZ

Based in Guildford, UK, MAD DUBZ, aka Tom Clifton, has been developing since 2016 a project centered on heavy, fragmented dubstep close to riddim and tearout. As a producer and DJ, MAD DUBZ has refined over the years a writing style marked by highly textured basses, frequent rhythmic breaks and a taste for unexpected structures, placing his music within a particularly abrasive fringe of bass music. His activity mainly unfolds within the circuit of specialized labels, with releases on Halcyon, Cyclops Recordings and Bassrush, including the EP WACKY which synthesizes part of his aesthetic. The track "Poppe", produced in collaboration with Automhate, illustrates this approach through intricate sound design and incisive tempo variations. MAD DUBZ's productions circulate in the sets of producers like Subtronics, Svdden Death and Infekt, situating Tom Clifton within an international network of DJs and labels oriented toward the most experimental forms of modern dubstep, while retaining a distinctly British grounding in his sonic language.
