CHERISE

Born in 1995 and hailing from Luton in Bedfordshire, Cherise Adams-Burnett has developed her career within the London scene after training with Tomorrow’s Warriors and then at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, from which she graduated in 2017. Under the name CHERISE, she crafts a writing voice where vocal jazz meets soul and neo-soul, with a supple singing style, groove-driven arrangements, and a keen focus on melodic textures. Of Jamaican heritage through her family, CHERISE belongs to a generation of musicians renewing British jazz by linking it to broader urban and spiritual forms. Before her solo releases, she played with the group Trope, which released the EP Trope 5ive in 2017 on Jazz: Refreshed, with lyrics she signed. She is also featured alongside Camilla George on The People Could Fly in 2018, Cassie Kinoshi’s SEED Ensemble on Driftglass in 2019, and in projects related to Nubiyan Twist and Alex Hitchcock. A first solo step emerged with the track 'Remedy' in 2021, followed by the album Calling in 2023. On stage, CHERISE has performed in British venues and festivals such as the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and Love Supreme, in a setting where improvisation remains tied to song.
