Sophie May

Based in south London and originally from East Dulwich, Sophie May has developed a singer-songwriter style marked by folk-pop, indie folk and restrained indie pop, centered on voice, guitar and highly narrative lyrics. She started out playing London pubs and was noticed during the lockdowns thanks to short song clips shared online, before releasing her first singles in 2022, including "With the Band", and the EP "You Do Not Have to Be Good" the same year. Her live profile has since grown, opening for acts such as Matt Maltese, Inhaler, Ocean Alley, Sarah Kinsley and Spector, and appearing at festivals like Barn on the Farm, Live at Leeds, The Great Escape, Latitude, Liverpool Sound City and Reeperbahn. In 2023 she released the EP "Worst Thoughts in the World", featuring contributions from Fred Macpherson, followed by the mini-album "Half Songs". In 2024 came the EP "Deep Sea Creatures", preceded by "No More Birthdays" and "Tiny Dictator" — the latter inspired by her experience of obsessive-compulsive disorder — and then "Brian Cox" and "Just Want You". Sophie May's songs move between confession, observation and hushed melodies, with a taste for discreet arrangements and restrained choruses.
