Paledusk

Based in Fukuoka, Japan, Paledusk has developed since the latter half of the 2010s a hybrid approach to modern metal, combining metalcore, nu metal and electronic textures. The band first emerged on the local hardcore scene and gradually established itself within the network of specialised venues and clubs, before moving on to wider tours in Japan and abroad. The release of the EP “Happy Talk” in 2019 marked an important milestone, asserting a format of highly contrasted tracks that alternate heavy riffs, rhythmic breaks, melodic sung passages and sequences close to trap or bass music. Paledusk frequently plays on the mix of screamed vocals and more pop-oriented lines, in both Japanese and English, and on fragmented song structures that emphasise the collage effect between metalcore, hip‑hop and electronic influences. Through singles and collaborations, Paledusk is part of a generation of Japanese bands seeking to cross club culture, international metal codes and digital aesthetics.
