Born in Kansas and based in Arkansas, Willi Carlisle develops a writing rooted in American folk traditions while approaching them from an angle, with a marked penchant for marginal narratives, humor and offbeat characters. His universe intersects country folk, old-time, bluegrass and Americana, with a significant emphasis on storytelling and an interpretation that draws as much on song as on the orality of popular music. After beginnings on the independent scenes of the Midwest and the South of the United States, Willi Carlisle releases several albums that structure his career, including To Tell You the Truth in 2018, Peculiar, Missouri in 2022 and Critterland in 2024.
