Bad Boombox

Based in Berlin and coming from a Bulgarian‑American background, Bad Boombox has been developing a DJ and producer project since the late 2010s that is rooted in the most direct strains of club music. Their approach mixes techno, hard house, hard groove, electro, ghetto tech and nods to eurodance and trance, with fast tempos, dry basslines and a clear taste for the energy of raves from the 1990s and 2000s. Bad Boombox first made a name online before taking a place on the European club circuit, in a scene where internet aesthetics, rave culture and a non‑hierarchical sense of the DJ set coexist. Their productions appear notably on Hot Meal Records, a label tied to their world, and continue the same collage logic of vintage references and contemporary effectiveness. In both sets and tracks, Bad Boombox favors an unselfconscious reading of electronic music, balancing techno tension, rougher house grooves and borrowings from popular sounds often left at the margins of more traditional club narratives.
